Project ROCK Thanksgiving & Celebration

A packed church, joyful worship, a reflective sermon and delicious cake – that was the story at Cumbernauld Old Parish Church on Sunday evening.

Project ROCK cross candleMembers of our sister churches and the wider community joined us to give thanks to God and recognise the time, talents and money of those who participated in the eleven-year project to renew our church roof and the subsequent refurbishment of our worship sanctuary – what we called Project ROCK (Restoration of Old Cumbernauld Kirk).

Representatives of some of the people and groups involved in the project led readings, meditations and prayers (including the lighting of a candle cross, pictured above) and the sermon was preached by Very Rev David Lunan, a former Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

All-in-all it was a fitting celebration of what has been a long, involved and sometimes difficult process.

Finally, we ought to say “thanks” to Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottery Fund for the grant funding that enabled us to complete this major piece of work on our Church building.

Toddlers’ Praise at Cumbernauld Old

Harvest Toddlers' PraiseOn Saturday 5th September, Cumbernauld Old holds its next Toddlers’ Praise service starting around 11am(-ish).

Our theme will be Harvest and we are inviting all toddlers to come along dressed in autumn colours, or even as farmers. We’re also hoping there will be lots of toy tractors brought along to display! Oh, and please bring mum, dad, granny, grandpa and uncles and aunties too! There will be songs and a story, things to collect and something to make and juice and biscuits (with tea or coffee for the grown-ups).

It all adds up to about 30 – 45 minutes of fun, and we hope to see as many people as possible on the day.
