Any budding musicians or lyricists out there? We need your talents!
The Book of Psalms is the songbook of the Bible – David (yes the shepherd and great king) wrote many, if not all, of the Psalms, and you’ll find many emotions within the Psalms just as you will in any pop song today – love, betrayal, justice, praise, peace, contentment.
For those of a certain age, did you know that the Boney M song “By the Rivers of Babylon” is a direct lift of Psalm 137? See – the psalms are still well known today!
Come along on Sunday 28th December and learn more about the songbook of the Bible. We’re making all kinds of instruments to use during our worship and writing song lyrics which we’ll put to a simple tune and which we’ll sing during our worship time. We might find a budding “X Factor” contestant in amongst you all!
January’s J.A.F.A. Church at Abronhill Parish Church will centre around the Old Testament story of Daniel and his three friends. Although they were under the rule of the king, they refused to conform to his laws, declaring that they would obey only God’s law.
They “dared to be different” and gained respect and admiration from their peers and the king himself. Daniel was saved from a terrible death when he was thrown into a den full of hungry lions and his three friends were saved from burning alive in a furnace, all by God’s saving power and grace.
Come along to Abronhill Parish Church on Sunday 26th January and find out more! Activities will all centre around this great book found in the Old Testament.
JAFA Church (Jesus And Families Altogether) takes place at Abronhill Parish Church on the last Sunday of every month from 4 – 6pm. Our next get-together will be on Sunday 29th December when JAFA Church’s theme will be ‘Twixmas’ – what happened after Jesus was born.
