Abronhill Parish Church celebrates its 50th Anniversary this October with a range of events throughout the month. Here are the main ones:
Sunday 11th October: Plaza Praise in the Precinct outside the Church at 6.30pm (weather permitting) followed by refreshments in the church hall. Come and sing hymns from 1965 to the present date.
Monday 12th to Friday 16th: Children’s Morning Holiday Club from 10am – 12 noon. This is aimed at the Primary School age-group and parents are asked to register their children with the Family Worker, Susan Boland at the church.
Each day, while the Holiday Club is on there will be a ‘drop in’ Prayer Group for the Holiday Club.
Also on these dates Afternoon Tea will be served in the Hall from 2 – 4pm
Saturday 17th: A Day of Giving – all day
Sunday 18th October: Songs of Praise service in the Church at 11.15am
Monday 19th to Friday 23rd: Afternoon Tea, each day from 2 – 4pm
Saturday 24th: Social Evening in Church hall at 7pm (tickets available from the Church – no charge)
This will be preceded by a meal at 6.00pm for which, also, there will be no charge.
Sunday 25th October: Thanksgiving Service in the Church at 11.15am
J.A.F.A Church will also be on that Sunday, between 4 and 6pm. We’ll post details of that separately nearer the time.
The Church building and Sanctuary will be open for the full two weeks between Sundays 11th and 25th October with memorabilia displays showing the church history and for a quiet time of prayer and reflection.

This Sunday 20th October sees our annual Harvest Services and we welcome gifts of dried groceries (e.g. pasta, rice, cereals, dried fruit), tinned food (e.g. vegetables or soup), drinks (e.g. tea, coffee, long-life fruit juices) and toiletries which will be shared out to by the Social Work department based in Easterhouse, Glasgow. Everything donated will find its way to people in need.
Abronhill Church is collecting items in shoe boxes for distribution to the homeless in Glasgow through ‘Loaves and Fishes’. If you would like to help with this please hand your shoeboxes into Church by 2nd December. Dennis and Cathy from Loaves and Fishes will be at the morning service on that Sunday to take our donations. Please make sure your box is labelled for male/female adult, boy/girl or baby. Please put the approximate age on it also. If you are unable to fill a box, donations of small gifts like shower gel, shampoo etc. will be greatly appreciated.
The annual Harvest Thanksgiving services at Cumbernauld Old will be on Sunday 7th October at 10.15am and 11.45am. We invite those attending to bring a gift of dried groceries (pasta, rice, cereals, dried fruit), tinned food (vegetables, soup), drinks (tea, coffee, long-life fruit juices) or toiletries which will be shared out by the Social Work Department based in Easterhouse in Glasgow. Christian Aid Weeks 2012 runs from 13 – 19 May. This year’s focus is on giving people the tools to “grow their own way out of poverty”. Watch their video here – and don’t forget to give generously!
The Stewardship committee at Abronhill Parish Church has decided to have the month of March as our stewardship season and will be looking at how we give our time, talents and money in God’s service. This year we will be focusing on money and asking people to review their giving.
