What a busy few days we have had:
The Sanctuary and Organ were rededicated by Mrs Marjorie Williamson, Moderator of Falkirk Presbytery on Thursday evening, 15 May. This lovely Service of worship and thanksgiving was very well-attended and afterwards, in the Church Halls, delicious refreshments were enjoyed by all.
Saturday, 17 May was the Annual Summer Fete when an amazing £1,266 was raised towards the Sanctuary Refurbishment Project. THANK YOU to all who made this possible.
Finally, at our Service on Sunday, 18 May, Alistair Robertson (ordained as an Elder elsewhere) was welcomed and introduced to the congregation and Long-Service Awards were given to John Newlands and Anne Taylor, our Organist. Congratulations!
Our Craft Fair and Coffee Morning held yesterday was a great success raising £600 towards the Sanctuary Refurbishment Project. A big ‘thank you’ to the organisers, stall holders, those ‘manning’ the refreshments and, of course, all who attended.
A Re-Dedication Service for the Sanctuary and Organ will be held on 15 May at 7 pm. Tea and coffee will be served afterwards in the hall.
Spring Fayre – Saturday 17 May 12 noon – 2 pm
Condorrat Gala Day – Saturday 21 June (time tba) – Condorrat Church doing the refreshments
Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show at the Westerwood Hotel – 4 October 12 noon
More details of these events in future postings.
We are very grateful to have been awarded a grant by the National Heritage Lottery allowing us to proceed with the work of refurbishing the Organ. This grant will also cover an associated project being carried out in partnership with Baird Primary School. The final stage of the project is intended to be an Exhibition of the work and research done by the children from P5/6. Preliminary plans are in hand for a weekday evening service to formally rededicate the Sanctuary and the Organ and to be a celebration of Thanksgiving. There will be further details in a future posting.
The Social Committee’s latest event, a Beetle Drive and Fish Supper was a fun-filled evening and raised £720 towards the Sanctuary Refurbishment Project. Thanks to all involved in organising this and to everyone who attended.
The next fund-raising event is a Craft Fair and Coffee Morning on 26th April at 10 am. Tickets are £2 which includes tea/coffee and goodies. As always, there will be a good mix of Crafters so there should be lots of beautiful things to buy and the ladies of The Guild are holding a Home Baking Stall. Do come along – everyone is very welcome.
Sanctuary Refurbishment Project Update
We are now approaching the final stages of the refurbishment and are very grateful to the generous grants from WREN and EKF, along with The Church of Scotland General Trustees and others. The floor has been completely replaced; internal doors and lighting renewed; under-floor heating installed and a doorway now leads to a new fire corridor; externally a ramp and steps have been constructed and there is new lighting at the front entrance with new entrance doors. When the floor around the former Sanctuary vestibule was being dismantled, the remains of a newspaper called The Glasgow News dated 19th/20th November 1879 was discovered. This will be tidied up and framed for everyone to see. We now begin the ‘decorating and finishing stages’ of the project along with the refurbishment and re-installation of the Organ.
‘Condorrat Has Talent’- Friday 28 February at 7pm
Rehearsals are well underway and a group of young people from the Girls’ and Boys’ Brigades are practising in preparation for the show which is to be held in the Church Hall on Friday 28 February at 7pm. Tickets are now available at a cost of £5 adults and £2 children (includes tea and biscuits) – proceeds in aid of the Organ Fund. Do come along for a great evening of entertainment.
Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade
Plans are underway for a Boys’ Brigade reunion on Saturday 8 March at 7 pm in the Church Hall. Their Captain writes “Along with pictures, trophies and various bits and pieces of BB interest there will be an opportunity to see a DVD of the 50th Anniversary Show which was held at Greenfaulds High School. Please try and spread the word as I am sure there will be a lot of ex-members who would love to meet up again.”
This year the Girls’ Brigade is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Company.
The Sunday School has restarted for the new year and welcomes all children between 3 and 11 years old. They would like to thank everyone who supported the children at the Nativity Service and say the £60 received from the tea and coffee served afterwards will be used to buy resources for their work.
At their meeting on 5 February The Guild will have a visit from our local Librarian and on 19 February they have a joint meeting with Abronhill Guild to hear more about one of their projects ‘Out of Africa into Malta’. On 5 March they will have a ‘Daffodil Tea’ and will be entertained by The Sweet Harmony Barber Shop Group. Tickets, priced £3 will be on sale shortly.
A Group for Carers commenced on 30 January at 10 am at the Manse. Anyone interested in joining the group can obtain more details from the Minister.
The Social Committee has organised a varied programme of events for the year. Following ‘Condorrat Has Talent’ there will be the ever popular Fish Supper / Beetle Drive on Wednesday 12 March. The first Craft Fair of the year will be held on 26 April and our Annual Summer Fete will be held on 17 May. There will be more details of these in a future posting.

The Sanctuary Refurbishment Steering Group has been working diligently and is delighted to inform the congregation of the “Great News”, that we are now in a position to commence the Refurbishment. The proposed start date is October, lasting approximately eighteen weeks. Whilst the Sanctuary is being refurbished all our services will take place in the Church halls. During the project there will be no vehicle access to the Church grounds but arrangements have been made with the Nursery in Kirk Place to have the use of their car park during this time. “This is a major step in the future life of our Church in Condorrat which can enable us to be more involved in the local community and them with us.”
