Sanctuary Refurbishment Project Update

We are now approaching the final stages of the refurbishment and are very grateful to the generous grants from WREN and EKF, along with The Church of Scotland General Trustees and others.  The floor has been completely replaced; internal doors and lighting renewed; under-floor heating installed and a doorway now leads to a new fire corridor; externally a ramp and steps have been constructed and there is new lighting at the front entrance with new entrance doors.  When the floor around the former Sanctuary vestibule was being dismantled, the remains of a newspaper called The Glasgow News dated 19th/20th November 1879 was discovered.  This will be tidied up and framed for everyone to see.  We now begin the ‘decorating and finishing stages’ of the project along with the refurbishment and re-installation of the Organ.

‘Condorrat Has Talent’- Friday 28 February at 7pm

Rehearsals are well underway and a group of young people from the Girls’ and Boys’ Brigades are practising in preparation for the show which is to be held in the Church Hall on Friday 28 February at 7pm.  Tickets are now available at a cost of £5 adults and £2 children (includes tea and biscuits) – proceeds in aid of the Organ Fund.  Do come along for a great evening of entertainment.

Boys’ Brigade and Girls’ Brigade

Plans are underway for a Boys’ Brigade reunion on Saturday 8 March at 7 pm in the Church Hall.  Their Captain writes “Along with pictures, trophies and various bits and pieces of BB interest there will be an opportunity to see a DVD of the 50th Anniversary Show which was held at Greenfaulds High School.  Please try and spread the word as I am sure there will be a lot of ex-members who would love to meet up again.”

This year the Girls’ Brigade is celebrating the 75th Anniversary of the Company.

The Sunday School has restarted for the new year and welcomes all children between 3 and 11 years old. They would like to thank everyone who supported the children at the Nativity Service and say the £60 received from the tea and coffee served afterwards will be used to buy resources for their work.

At their meeting on 5 February The Guild will have a visit from our local Librarian and on 19 February they have a joint meeting with Abronhill Guild to hear more about one of their projects ‘Out of Africa into Malta’.  On 5 March they will have a ‘Daffodil Tea’ and will be entertained by The Sweet Harmony Barber Shop Group.  Tickets, priced £3 will be on sale shortly.

A Group for Carers commenced on 30 January at 10 am at the Manse.  Anyone interested in joining the group can obtain more details from the Minister.

The Social Committee has organised a varied programme of events for the year.  Following ‘Condorrat Has Talent’ there will be the ever popular Fish Supper / Beetle Drive on Wednesday 12 March.  The first Craft Fair of the year will be held on 26 April and our Annual Summer Fete will be held on 17 May.  There will be more details of these in a future posting.

Cumbernauld Old worship update

As our church building is still under repair / renovation and the Large Hall of the Village Hall in The Wynd is unavailable, our 10.15am worship service on Sunday 25th August will take place in the Forge Community Centre in Balloch (postcode G68 9ND). This is for one week only and will incorporate the Sacrament of Baptism; we revert to the Village Hall for the following week’s worship. We ask those requiring lifts from the Village to Balloch to please meet at the Village Hall at 9.45am. Thanks.

Sunday 25th August sees the restart of our J Team after the summer holidays. They meet from 10.00am in the Small Hall of the Village Hall (which is available to us that day).

The 11.45am worship service at the Forge will take place as usual this Sunday.

Sunday 1st September is Communion Sunday and joint services take place at 11.00am in the Large Hall of the Village Hall and at 6.30pm in the Roadside Hall in the Village. There will be no service at the Forge this Sunday. Non-alcoholic wine will be used at the 6.30pm service.

Condorrat Church ‘Banner Headlines’

The Banner group has produced a beautiful banner depicting all the groups within our church under the heading of Bind Us Together. This lovely work is now proudly displayed in the church for all to see and appreciate.

  • ImageOther news:
    • Sunday 16th June was the Sunday School’s Prize-giving.  The service was a joyful one with the children entertaining us with action songs and encouraging us all to join in a lively rendition of Alleluia Praise the Lord.  All the men were given a chocolate and book mark to celebrate Father’s Day.  Thank you Sunday School and teachers.
    • The Guild, the Boys’ and Girls’ Brigades have all had another busy and interesting year and are now taking a break for the summer.
    • Tickets are now available for the Ladies Lunch and Fashion Show at the Westerwood Hotel on Saturday 21st September. All proceeds will go to our Sanctuary Refurbishment Project.  The fund is now growing due to the many fund-raising events and some recent substantial grants for which we are extremely grateful.
